Out of habit, my SO (significant other) and I would frequently drive to Tagaytay to enjoy the breeze and check out what’s new in the city. With the amount of construction going on both sides of the main road, Aguinaldo Highway, Tagaytay is one of the most exciting places to be in – there is bound to be something new every time you visit.

So we were looking forward to the opening of this particular hotel, one that we saw being built over the span of several months. We were quite delighted when we found out it is now operational and very aptly named The Lake Hotel. The 3-storey Mediterranean-inspired resort hotel was sprawling, quite unlike the boutique type hotels usually built in an area where real estate is premium. A (very) big plus is that The Lake Hotel is situated on the ridge overlooking Taal Lake. Can you imagine waking up to that marvelous sight?

Inside, the hotel lived up to the expectations we had from viewing its construction every time we passed it by. All signs showed then, as now, that this hotel is far from ordinary. Rather than have the lobby on one plane as is common to hotels, The Lake Hotel maximizes the natural slope of the land with an expansive flight of steps going down to the reception area. You hear the melodic tune of waters going down a fountain that run alongside these stairs. At the bottom is the reception area and here, you are greeted with a full view of the lake and volcano. The way this scene unfolds dramatically as you descend adds an extra kick to an otherwise familiar, yet still awesome, view. An infinity pool right is located in the lobby with the same view of the lake. I can just imagine the way this would look on special occasions with floating candles and flowers for a truly romantic d?cor.

Truth be told, hotels sell on three critical features: ambiance, accommodations and food. This warm and elegant hotel has loads of the first: the ambiance is unbeatable with direct views of Tagaytay Lake! The hotel offer three venues for guests to sample culinary delights: the Lake CafĂ© for pastries and vegetarian delicacies, Dzi Garden with its fusion of Chinese, Western and Filipino specialties and The Antonio Yupitun Executive Lounge for light meals, coffee and cocktail drinks. The official caterer of the hotel is Tamayo’s so guests are assured of a sumptuous dining experience for functions and special occasions. Now for the last critical feature, accommodations…the hotel rooms are exactly what you’d want for a luxurious getaway.

There is a wide selection of rooms from the Standard Room all the way to the extravagant 2-bedroom suite with its own living and dining areas, much like what a complete upscale vacation house should look like. All rooms are warm and welcoming in sophisticated hues of earth and sand. Each is equipped with deluxe amenities such as key-card locking system, 32-inch flat screen HD TV with cable channels, individually-controlled airconditioning units, IDD/NDD telephone service, in-room safety and deposit box, mini-bar, coffee and tea-maker, 24-hour room service and complete bathroom amenities (love the large rainshowerhead!). We were shown the mid-range room and I promptly fell in love with it, a Deluxe Lake View Room with a balcony to enjoy the scenic view, a queen-size bed and single bed (with my daughter claiming the smaller bed as hers) and my favorite feature: a glass wall separating the bedroom and the bathroom. While soaking in the tub, you can catch up on the news or your favorite soap – isn’t that neat? Of course, you can pull down the blinds for privacy in the bathroom. I really love that the bathroom still has enough room to move in with a bathtub and separate shower stall.

Another feature that ups the wow factor of Tagaytay’s newest hotel is that its location makes it simply perfect for intimate weddings and special occasions. Saying “I Do” in the garden or on the view deck with killer views is bound to make the occasion all the more memorable. In fact, the hotel has a total of 1850 square meters of flexible banquet and meeting area for every imaginable occasion, be it social or business. With its gym, spa, sports and entertainment areas, it has complete facilities to cater to the health and wellness of every guest.

Another advantage of the hotel’s central location is that it is nestled right along the city’s food strip, so sampling the varied restaurants, cafes and food joints are a just few minutes away. No worries about getting your daily caffeine fix as popular coffee houses like Starbucks and Bag of Beans are a hop, skip and step away. Need more reasons to stay at The Lake Hotel? How about its proximity to the city’s prime entertainment, shopping and tourist spots like the Casino Filipino Tagaytay, Picnic Grove, Ilog Maria Honey Bee Farm, People’s Park, Calaruega Church and many more?

The Lake Hotel Tagaytay is the one venue you have to check out very soon if you’re looking for that perfect place to hold your business conference, a special party or simply to unwind and relax…you deserve it!
